Ernestown Wind Park is a 10MW wind project located in Loyalist Township, Ontario built by the Horizon Legacy Group.  The project began supplying electricity to the grid in 2014.  Five Enercon E82 turbines produces enough to power 2000 homes annually.  Three turbines are located on farm land, two are located on a quarry, a great example of multi-purpose land use.  Over 50 companies and organizations were involved in building the project.  97% of construction labour, totaling 55,000 hours, was performed by Ontario workers.  The project won two awards, including the SWITCH Rural Initiatives Award and the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association’s Sustainable Energy Project of the Year.  Many have climbed the 100m turbine to raise money for charity, including firefighters, teachers, environmentalists, and a documentary film maker.  It was one of the first wind projects in Ontario with an Indigenous partner.
